Deanne
Hello,

Kaos Group got a summer tune up – check out our new web site for Business and Residential services, educational events, enhanced links for optimum organization, and more.

Attend our September 27th Time Management - Making it Work for You seminar and you will receive bonus materials. Only available to the September seminar attendees. Scroll down for more information.

Seminar attendees speak: Your work shop helped me by renewing my commitment to managing my life by managing my time. Implementing the systems you teach has made a tremendous difference.

When we work with our residential clients we find money – no joke. We have found thousands of dollars. This money is either found in real dollars or as a savings of time. According to Price Waterhouse, professionals spend 50% of their time locating pertinent information. Companies of all sizes have over 80% of 'unstructured data' according to Yankee Group. Find out how much disorganization is costing you

Welcome to our September edition of the Organized Lifestyle Magazine. This month is all about containerizing - I can't talk enough about it! I live my life by this method. I containerize time - so to speak. Emails are containerized, documents are, you guessed it, containerized, kids toys - containerized. Read on for more ideas on how to containerize your life and turn chaos to calm.

Everything Needs a Home - So Containerize It!
* HOME *

One of our readers responded by asking ‘how do I organize all of my socks?” Life is a precarious balance of work, pleasure, sports, and casual wear and to enjoy each is to be able to easily dress for the occasion. If it’s not challenging enough for women who have pantyhose, knee highs, dress socks, sports socks and whatever else may be in your foot wear drawer, men have a challenging time of the foot wear issue as well.

Our answer – containerize them. You knew I was going to say that didn’t you?

There are approximately 30 quadrillion ways to do this so here are a few of our favorites.

Space Solutions drawer organizers in wood or drawer dividers in plastic.

Expanda ble Wooden Drawer Organizers

Ikea (sorry but they aren't available on line - the link will help you find a store close to you. Komplement mesh boxes with zippers – code is 900.505.90 because they are hard to find in the stores. There are 6 in a bag and they retail for $9.99 The zipper makes them collapsible if you aren’t using them however, they are also great for grouping like items in the bathroom or for kid’s drawers for all those tiny socks, t-shirts, etc.

Still short on space? Consider rotating your seasonal clothes. Those winter woollies do take up a lot of space. The important thing to remember when using drawer organizers is to group like items and ensure every item has a home.

Containerize Your Time
* TIME *

Tips to Managing Your Time:

Be realistic. You can start this by tracking your time (honestly) to know how much time you "really" spend on your to-do's. Use a piece of paper, an excel spread sheet, or time tracking tools available on line.

  • Learn how much time it takes to travel to your destination. Google Maps is a good start and then add a cushion of 15 minutes or so.
  • When you show up early you can catch up on your reading materials. Always have the To-Read folder, or a portion of it, with you.
  • Schedule all action items - I call them To-Do’s - and allocate a time to each item.
  • Be fair & realistic to yourself and for optimum time management because really it's our perception of time that we are developing here.

Interested in making time work for you? See the details below for the Kaos Group Time Seminar on September 27th, 2006.

Making it Simple
Deanne's Tips

Part of making it simple is being realistic with ourselves. Each person’s time requirements vary according to a multitude of variables. If you have been disorganized for a while there is no magic pill or person to make this go away. There are however, people with a plan, options and a method to make it a reality for you.

From our perspective you have at least ways you can start: 1) Hire Kaos Group for the One Day Clear Your Clutter Event – you will be absolutely astonished at what we can do in just 6 hours or 2) allow us to complete a House Analysis for you.

During a House Analysis we’ll do a complete walk through, take pictures of each room, discuss your challenges and your needs then deliver a complete report outlining our ideas, solutions, and an estimate of the time required for implementation by us or you can use the document to create the results.

Our Clients Say..... "Now our house is the most organized it has ever been. We slept like babies in the mind calmness. And as soon as we walk into the house I feel so wonderful knowing it is not a weight on my shoulders to have to sort out!"

YOU: Are a woman who is positive and laugh as we talk about our day. Perhaps you are a divorcee or a widow whose kids have grown and moved away. You have a home with stairs inside (that I can walk.).

ME: An organized marketer (this is true – ask Deanne Kelleher, the Beach WHO leader) with lots of knowledge and experience to offer especially in small business. Need 2 rooms. “Stuff” for my bedroom and home office – like computer and bookshelves with lots of books! Rest can go in storage.

Currently I talk and walk “funny” because I had multiple strokes in 2005 but everyone who knows me says my courage and persistent nature is inspiring. I’ll pay $500 – 600 rent. Containerize Your Digital Files
* OFFICE *

Digital decluttering is such a relief. Just think what a load to can take off when you can find documents easily and effortlessly.

  1. Start by evaluating what you have on your desktop and what lives in My Documents and merge where you can
  2. Create general category titles in you’re My Documents folder
  3. Group your documents into those categories
  4. Create sub headings in each folder but only when absolutely necessary
  5. Label your documents in manner memorable to you - something that you will remember or can easily search for
  6. Don’t agonize over the total number of documents you have, just start with one small organizing step and be consistent until they are all organized
  7. If you get disheartened think about how much time (money) this will save you in the very near future
  8. Consider creating document headings that are similar to your hard copy filing system
  9. Be sure you are backing up your Desk Top if you keep folders there!

Here is a quick tip for organizing My Documents. For easy viewing when moving docs – right click on My Computer then click explore – this makes dragging, dropping and creating folders incredibly easy.

Containerize your Nuts and Bolts – Literally!
* SPIRIT *

Jars are great for nuts and bolts – mason jars, baby jars, canning jars or a plethora of jar options available at your local hardware store.

If, in the past, you have giggled about those of us who have a deep and meaningful relationship with our Label Makers – this is a perfect time for you to join our club. It’s just so easy when you can read the label amongst 20 jars sitting on a shelf.

For the carpenters out there – consider constructing a shelving unit that will hold all your nuts and bolts jars horizontally with the lids facing out. The lids are labelled and finding that specific item will be much easier than searching through piles of boxes or old coffee cans.

Another idea is to use jars that all have the same size lid. Screw the lid to the bottom of a shelf and the jar hangs in plain sight.

Our third idea is what many of you many remember in your garage as a child - some credit must be given to the fact that these nuts and bolts containers are still around.

When your tools are organized you are far more likely to tackle the little repairs that need to be made.
