Deanne
Hello,

I need to tell you something that I’ve known about myself for quite some time but have only recently started to admit. I’m an organized personality type – which I know you know -but the secret part is that I am also a lover of ‘get-up-and-go’. At times, it’s to the point of seeming messy or in disarray.

There are many days where, if you were to walk into my home or office, you would be stunned that I am an organizer by profession. This is because the media makes us out to be ‘Martha Stewart-like’ (no offence Martha – but you live a pretty pristine lifestyle for my taste). I generally juggle several things at a time, plus two kids (who are too cute I might add). So, the fact that it doesn’t always look ‘pretty’ is okay with me because I actually have core-operational systems where, when things need to be put away, I know where they belong. That’s the ‘organizing’ factor that all of us at kAos Group believe in and bring to your home or office.

My point is that I have figured out how to keep myself on track, achieve my goals, and not lose my marbles in my own kAos. However, it is a work in progress. And you wonder where the company name comes from? If you knew me you would know that I can juggle a lot, achieve a lot, but I am also the girl who writes everything down on the To-Do list and schedules it in, in order to accomplish what I do.

You may laugh but I actually think about my errands and systematically plan how I’m going to achieve them. I write down everything that I need to do, I time myself at the grocery store. I look at the clock – a lot. I want to own my time and my accomplishments and the way for me to do that is to embrace the truth about how I work, plan it, schedule it and, happily check it off when it’s done.

What are you going to embrace about yourself this month?

Business Taxes
* OFFICE *

"Can I write that off?" is a very common question from business owners with the next question being, "When is that due?". So here is the condensed version of allowable business expenses and common deadlines as well as a plethora of sites to assist you with your inquiries.

Allowable Business Expenses

  • You must be able to prove to CRA that the expense is directly related to the operation of your business
  • Normally, allowable expenses include office supplies, business insurance, advertising and promotional materials.
  • Meals and entertainment are an area of caution. Write the names of the people at the meeting on the receipt. Only 50% of the GST paid on a meal is allowable for credit.
  • Auto - you are allowed to deduct your auto expenses incurred for business purposes only
  • You should keep a mileage log book of business kilometres driven.
  • Keep all vehicle related receipts

The above tips are compliments of Intellibiz Accounting Solutions Inc. Carolyn is easy to speak to and well versed in her field. She can be reached at (905)-775-9233 or by email at carolyn@intellibizaccounting.ca.

Important Deadlines

  • February 28th - T4 slips & T5 slips
  • March 1 - RRSP contribution
  • April 30 - Personal Tax Return (other than self employed individuals)
  • April 30 - GST owing on self employment income
  • April 30 - Personal taxes owing (self employed included)
  • June 15th - Personal tax return for self employed individuals and their spouses
  • June 15 - GST return for self employed individuals

Receipts and the Art of Zen
* SPIRIT *

Receipts mean money and if you don't track and calculate them yourself you will be paying your accountant a lot of money to do it for you. However, if doing this yourself isn’t your thing then you are likely to neglect the process just long enough to give yourself sleepless nights just before tax time.

However, if you know the right organizer, then you know you have other options. The kAos Group Professional Organizers will come to your home or office and assist you with the tax related services that pertain to your specific needs.

Our experience dictates that this generally takes 3-6 hours but it truly depends on what you need done, how many receipts you have (one shoe box, three grocery bags, etc) and how many categories they need to be divided into.

If you have questions about getting your tax information organized feel free to email us at info@kaosgroup.c om or by phone at 416-347-9002.
