The Big Elephant ... er, I mean Recession
Sometimes it's hard to acknowledge the obvious. You might be familiar with the expression about the elephant in the living room. The elephant is the difficulty that we'd prefer to ignore than acknowledge. We convince ourselves that it's easier to continue to dance around the large smelly beast than to deal with it.
The way I see it, there are a couple of obvious things happening right now that definitely impact how we feel each day. The first is talk of recession and money, and the other is time.
Allow me to speak first of the latter. If it seems as though I write about time every month ... well, it's because I do! I am constantly searching for ways to create that elusive peace and balance. Time is one of the four core sectors upon which this magazine is based. It taunts us and teases us. It makes us believe that it is plentiful; then one day we awaken from a well-needed restful slumber to find that time has been stolen from us. Sadly, this can ruin a well planned day.
The second issue on my mind is money - the perpetual and, hopefully, strategic search for enough. The endless planning, charts, graphs, reconciliations, juggling. The green and red and brown - is it enough? Will it continue to be enough?
Here comes the elephant - in the form of a recession. The big R is a hot topic, for valid reasons. The dictionary defines recession as "a period of economic decline when production, employment, and earnings fall below normal levels."
If you happen to be concerned in any way about how a recession might affect you then now would be a good time to start evaluating your time and finances in relation to your personal security.
Read below to begin acknowledging your elephant.

The Cost of Storage
|
|
When one searches the yellow pages for 'storage in Canada,' over 12,000 listings appear. There has been a substantial increase in storage usage over the past decade as the baby boomers (those born between 1946 and 1965) accumulate more stuff and downsize their parents.
It's not unusual to spend $1,500+ per year to store all this stuff (and that's if you have only one storage unit). Does the following scenario sound familiar? -- You are between the age of 44 and 62 and are busy with life, work, kids, possibly caring for your parent(s) and you just can't emotionally wrap your head around dealing with what lies behind that locked door.
Here at kAos, we understand all of that and more! We have been so fortunate to have our clients share their truths, and their reasons why it sometimes seems easier to pay thousands of dollars a year in storage fees, rather than just dealing with their stuff. And now we urge each of you storage locker owners out there to tackle the unit while the weather permits.
Here's a motivation for tackling that job: If you clear out your storage unit(s) you can pocket the money you save and reduce your ongoing expenses. Perfect planning for a pending recession!
Seems like a great idea to us! The clients who have already cleared their storage units are incredibly pleased with the outcome, and surprised at how easy it is to part with their old junk.
One smelly elephant acknowledged!

The Time Required
|
|
How did you feel when you were thinking about clearing out your storage unit? Maybe excited? Did you then try to figure out how and when to do it ... and promptly feel overwhelmed and dejected?
We assure you, the time exists - you just need to schedule it into your life.
Lots of people feel challenged by scheduling time for these kinds of chores. If this sounds familiar to you, maybe it's time to invite your elephant to tea! All joking aside, when we acknowledge our challenges, we create opportunity to find the solutions that have been eluding us.
Take a look at your scheule and then give us a call.
Elephant number 2 has now disappeared!
